Our tips for your stay in the island capital of San Sebastián de La Gomera
Public bus
The bus company of the second smallest Canary Island La Gomera is called GuaGuaGomera. Eight different bus lines connect the individual towns on the island at regular intervals and the hub is the large bus station "Estación de Guaguas". From here you have connections to Valle Gran Rey, Hermigua or Vallehermoso, for example. But beware: the buses on La Gomera do not run quite as often as in Germany or England and you should plan your tour carefully in advance.
Airport transfer
Would you like an uncomplicated and cheap transfer from the airport to your accommodation in San Sebastián? Then the Autobuses Mesa transport service is the best solution for you. You will be picked up at Tenerife Airport, taken to the ferry port and then later driven to your accommodation - and of course back again. In addition, the very low price always includes the ferry tickets with the ferry company Fred Olsen. There is no cheaper and more comfortable way to travel to La Gomera.
Rental car
You can rent a car from Tenerife Airport or at the port of San Sebastian. The rental car provider CICAR allows you to transfer the car to La Gomera - this is forbidden by most other providers. At the port of San Sebastián you will find some local as well as international rental car providers who offer different categories at different conditions - so it is worth comparing. Early reservation is recommended, especially in the high season.
Ferries La Gomera
Two ferry companies connect the two islands of Tenerife and La Gomera. The crossing with the Fred Olsen company is a little faster, but the Naviera Armas is a little cheaper. The ferries cross to La Gomera a maximum of 3 times a day and the departure times are almost identical. An advantage of the Fred Olsen ferry company is that you can deposit your suitcase in a lockable luggage trolley. Especially in the high season or on regional holidays, it is advisable to book your ticket early.
Reserve in time!
While there is plenty of accommodation in San Sebastián, we recommend booking well in advance, particularly during the holiday and winter seasons, which tend to run from mid-October to after Easter. Many Gomera lover already reserve their apartment for the coming season when they leave, just to be on the safe side. The "pearls" in particular are usually fully booked very early - i.e. holiday apartments near the beach, apartments with a sea view or accommodation with a large terrace. Booking early also makes sense as you often get better prices. This tip also applies to tourists who want to spend the entire winter on La Gomera.
